I’ve been trying to keep a blog since blogs were first a thing (no, you’re old). I consider this more of a hybrid endeavor - blog/newsletter. I don’t have a plan here so you, dear reader, will be winging it with me. More than likely these will be short. And look, I’m open to suggestions. Y’all want to see more photos? Sure, happy to oblige. Want more random thoughts? Okay, you got it dude. Want to see my collection of photo books? Okay, coming right up. However, as this is my very first post on this full moon schedule, I want to say thank you. I really appreciate y’all being here and interested in anything I have to say. I keep asking friends if having a newsletter is cringe - there’s no definitive answer. I guess we’ll see what happens. In the meantime, here is something I found interesting in the last month.
David Lynch has a photobook called Snowmen.
I really want this book, but its out of print so if anyone sees it out in the world - just let me know okay? This is especially fitting because we had a snow day in Austin in January.
Though there wasn’t enough snow in my neck of the woods for a snowman, I thought the timing was *interesting given February is apparently the Snow moon.
To this uncanny set of coincidences, all I can say is: So long and thanks for all the Snow(men) Mr. Lynch.
*interesting is used in this context to describe my affinity for convergences of seemingly unrelated things - and then repeating ‘isn’t that NUTS?’ to anyone who will listen. I understand its winter and winter usually means snow, therefore snow moon. But not in Texas, and I just learned that’s what its called. So therefore timing = NUTS.
And some updates:
I’m in a show at the Visual Arts Center in Austin, TX called The Modern Cowboy. There are 3 other shows happening simultaneously, so check it out if you have some time. It’ll be up until March 8. It was very cool they used my image in the instagram post.
Back in December, I was accepted to the 19th Biennial Joyce Elaine Grant Exhibition which will open Feb 24 at the Texas Woman’s University East | West Galleries and run through March 21, 2025. This is pretty exciting because I’ll be showing my film Like Breath Upon My Chest.
I’m still trying to figure out how film fits into my practice. Its something I want to keep pursuing, but its hard to fit all these disparate pieces of a practice into one cohesive thought. But we’re trying.
And last but not least - I am an Up Next member of Diversify Photo and each year they publish a year in review. Happy to say, I made it onto the list for September (my birthday month no less!) with this image - a shadow self portrait.
…
Isn’t that NUTS???
Love to you all, until we meet again at the next full moon.
